For the first time this year the Tasol GT Pro Cycling Team took to the start line with a full strength seven-man team.
leader Dean Edwards missed the entire first quarter of the season following a back operation in February and renowned track cyclist and road sprinter Nolan Hoffman only became eligible to race with the Durban based outfit on the 18th April following a 18 month layoff from the sport. Last week Edwards led five of his riders in the SA Track Championships at the Bellville Velodrome in Cape Town where they totally dominated proceedings claiming six from six National titles.
Hoffman was the star of the show winning the 15km Scratch, 35km Points and Elimination race. He was also part of the four man Tasol-GT Team Pursuit that won gold in the 4000m event and also partnered with Edwards to claim the 50km Madison event.
James Perry topped off a clean sweep for the team by winning the 4000m individual pursuit and not only did the pro road team win six titles but, youngsters Jean Spies and Clint Hendricks put in exceptional performances to attain podium places of their own, taking the teams total medal tally to 6 Gold’s, 1 Silver and 3 Bronze in a total of six events.
